Auxiliary Notes

The Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign wars (VFW) serve the veterans of this country and area communities in honor of the sacrifices and commitment of every man and woman who has served in uniform.

The Thurber-Greenwood Post 1916 Ladies Auxiliary serves the Post, local veterans and the Reedsburg area with many important programs. Chartered in 1932, the Post 1916 Auxiliary is celebrating their 80th birthday in 2012. They are currently 50 members strong, representing the wives, widows, and mothers of veterans.

Membership is open to a wife, widow, mother, daughter, (including step- and foster children) of a veteran. For more information, or to become a member of the Auxiliary, please send us your contact information by clicking here.

Auxiliary Services

Here are just a few of the programs the Ladies Auxiliary is involved in:

Annual Scholarship

A scholarship program for high school students who are an immediate relative of veteran.

Community Services

Make donations to area food pantries, Safe Harbor House, and the Sauk County Health Care Center; sere as Reedsburg Area Medical Center volunteers.

Veterans, Memorial Day program, Loyalty Day-

Donate flags to schools and area organizations, like the Health Care Center.

Run the Voice of Democracy (VOD), Patriots Pen, and Patriots Arts contests in area schools (VOD and Patriots Pen submittals are due annually to the Auxiliary in early fall; Patriot Arts submittals are due annually in mid-January.)

Memorial Fund

Work on legislation and political agendas with the state organization.

Emergency and disaster relief.

Assist the Post with the Annual Poppy Drive, up to the week of Memorial Day.

Make decorations and corsages, and do table work (with poppies) for Post functions.

Support Troops Over Seas

Send gift cards for the PX

Quotas

The Auxiliary must donate annually to VA hospitals (William S Middleton, Madison; Clement Zoblicki, Milwaukee; King, WI; North Chicago; Iron Mountain, MI), Cancer Fund, VFW newspaper and the National Veterans Home (Eaton Rapids, MI)

VFW Monthly Breakfast

The Auxiliary does all of the cooking, preparations, decorations for the Post 1916 Breakfast (second Sunday of the month).
